New Smartphone application points out speed traps

This morning on KSEE Sunrise Faith Sidlow talked with the creator of "Trapster," a new Smartphone application that tips off drivers when they're approaching a speed trap.

For the first time, millions of Americans getting behind the wheel this holiday season will have a new secret weapon to avoid speeding tickets when Law Enforcement is out in full force: a free downloadable technology called TRAPSTER, which has quickly become the world’s most popular driving related application for the iPhone and other smartphones. Having already attracted an army of millions of users, its popularity is growing on a daily basis for one simple reason: It allows users to report Law Enforcement speed traps and alert other drivers instantly in real time, helping them avoid costly and time-consuming speeding tickets.

TRAPSTER is legal and free to download. It can be run hands-free with voice technology to ensure that drivers stay focused on the road, providing spoken alerts to motorists when they approach police speed traps – laser/radar enforcement, fixed speed cameras, mobile speed camera vans, as well as red light cameras. Trapster also provides turn-by-turn directions, real time traffic, accident reports, gas stations, banks, rest stops, local search, and more.

With Californians experiencing record unemployment and the cost of speeding tickets frequently running over $300, the price of a ticket is simply more than most can afford. According to the latest figures released by the Department of Labor in late October, California’s Inland Empire (including Riverside, San Bernardino and Ontario) has the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the nation among cities with populations of more than 1 million – 2nd only to Detroit. El Centro, California ranks #1 with the highest unemployment rate of any metropolitan area at a whopping 30%.

Trapster has been featured in USA TODAY, WALL STREET JOURNAL, TIME which cited it as a “Top 10 iPhone app for dads” and WIRED which recognized Trapster as the #1 location based app.

i like it.. i used it since i have 3 times been wrongly given a speeding ticket. How obvious is it to tell a car is going faster than you... cuz it passes you in 3 seconds, yet he said i was the wrong speeding. Some training these pigs have.. and all they say in court i saw this person, and here it is on the radar print out.. hey you pigs, that doesnt prove anything, it just says a vehicle was speeding, not my car!!!!!!! how is that proof.. Pigs suck!

I think it's great! I see more near accidents from people slamming on their brakes when they see FPD bike cops hiding than from driving over the speed limit!

Wow "Baffled???", you sure are captain obvious today. Trapster not only alerts you of speed traps, and redlight cameras, but also helps you plan trips, and gives directions. This app makes sure people go the speed limit, I don't see how you are baffled.

Here's another app that may work even better. Follow the posted speed limit. It's free, works on all makes and models, has no adverse side effects and does not induce a visit the dreaded CHP officer. A speeding ticket is a tax on people who are to stupid to obey the laws. If you choose to speed, then you get to pay the "Stupid Tax."
