The Fresno County Youth Service Council is holding a Service Fair this Saturday, March 20 at the Zimmerman Boys and Girls Club in Fresno. Members of the Center for Multicultural Communication say the idea is to encourage teens and young people between the ages of 15 and 24 to get involved in their community and volunteer.
It's going to be a fun event with performances by valley dance groups and bands plus lunch and a raffle.

Young people on the Fresno Youth Service Council have been working for the past two years to mobilize students to address the dropout crisis in our county and our state. Many students responded that more service and civic engagement opportunities in their schools and communities would give them more of an incentive to graduate and go to college. Statistics show that youth who are more involved with their community are much more likely to finish high school.

The Service Fair will give youth, ages 15-24, the opportunity to sign up for service activities through dozens of Fresno County nonprofit organizations and government agencies. The event is
free and lunch and entertainment will be provided.

Youth leaders on the Fresno Youth Service Council conceived the idea for this service fair and wrote and received a $5,000 grant from America's Promise Alliance. Dedicated corporate partners
stepped forward to complete the budget and make the Service Fair a reality, including a $5,000 contribution from State Farm Insurance and a $500 donation by AT&T.

“Youth Leaders in Fresno County are showing us that they care about solving problems in their community and they want more opportunities to serve,” says John Minkler, Executive Director of
the Center for Multicultural Cooperation (CMC). Organizations with service opportunities for youth can still sign up for a table online
