Top Local News StoryBody Of Fallen Soldier Returns HomeThe body of a fallen soldier from Merced returned home from Iraq Friday. Servicemen carried the casket that held the body of Private First-Class Lukas Hopper. Hopper was killed in Iraq when his vehicle rolled over last week. The 20 year old had been in Iraq for more than a year, and was just nine days away from coming home before the accident. A public viewing will be held at Stratford Evans Funeral Home in Merced from 4 to 7 Friday night, and from 8am to 10am Saturday morning. A funeral will follow Saturday's viewing. They'll be handing out 160,000 lbs. of food, in addition to providing health services, haircuts, a carnival, and employment services. Organizers say this could be the most volunteers they've had at an event, and that they'll be ready to serve an expected 15,000.
