A big boom was heard this past weekend in the Big Easy.

The old Grand Palace Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana came crumbling down on Sunday.

The 17-story building was destroyed by 400 pounds of carefully placed explosives.

Both directions of Interstate 10 were shut down in the immediate area for a short while during the implosion.

With the hotel now history, work can begin on a new teaching hospital that's set to open in 2015.
