Two teens killed in drunk driving accident

The CHP is investigating a double fatal accident that claimed the lives of two teenagers and injured two more Saturday night.

Investigators said three factors-speed, alcohol and inexperience, combined to create a deadly situation.

Shortly before midnight Saturday an SUV with five teens inside veered out of control on a narrow country road near Kerman, killing Melina Sandoval,19, of Madera and Thomas Nazaroff,14, of Kerman.

The CHP said the car was speeding down Mckinley Avenue near Sycamore when the front passenger grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it to the right, causing the driver to lose control.

The SUV flipped several times, ejecting both Sandoval and Nazaroff, who were riding in the backseat, from the car. The driver and another passenger suffered minor and moderate injuries and were taken to community Regional Medical Center.

Investigators said none of the three teens in the backseat were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.

It was also determined that all five, including the driver, had been drinking.

Because of the circumstances surrounding the accident, the driver could be facing felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.

I see this everyday at work and the most common response from the DUI drivers are why are you arresting me when there are real criminals out there. Personally, I don't blame the parents. I'm a 23 year old student at NYU so no, I do not have any children but I do know that even if their parents had told them not to drink and drive, 1 teen out of the 5 would have been rebelious and disobeyed his/her parents and the other teens were just along for the ride; really, they weren't committing any crimes, except not wearing seat belts, which I'm sure they thought they could get away with. In the passengers' eyes, they were in the right.

I feel sorry for the people in the other car who got hit and had to suffer because of stupidity. I feel no remorse for the kid who drinks and kills himself. Its darwin in action. One less idiot teen left in the world. I do not feel sorry for the parents, because they should have tought them better. I see it as good for society.
