News update from the Fresno Police Department, Sgt. Alex Robles:
The Southeast district has seen an increase in gang-related violence involving the Asian Boyz gang, Tiny Rascal Gang and Bulldog gang members.
Many of these incidents have involved shootings into homes occupied by innocent families who were put in danger by these brazen acts of violence committed by these gang members attempting to retaliate against each other.
On Sunday, March 2nd, a large party at Peach and North in Fresno County erupted in gunfire, resulting in a quadruple shooting, leaving one person dead. The location of the party was outside of the city limits but near southeast Fresno. The party was suspect of being a Tiny Rascal Gang party.
On Wednesday, March 5th, a shooting occurred in the 4400 block of East Olive resulting in the murder of a 15-year-old juvenile. Two suspects are in custody for that murder, but there have been two additional shootings in that same neighborhood. The suspects for this murder are possible Bulldog gang members and the victim is a suspected Asian Boyz Gang member.
In response to these gang related shootings, Chief Jerry Dyer authorized the Southeast District Crime Suppression team to conduct a major gang operation on March 13, 2008, targeting the Asian Boyz gang, Tiny Rascal gang, and the Bulldog gang. Officers from Southeast district crime suppression team, along with officers from:
Southeast patrol
Northeast District Crime Suppression Team
Neighborhood Traffic Unit
Parole Apprehension Team
Fresno Police reserve unit
California State Parole Agents
Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC)
The officers conducted numerous parole and probation searches on known gang members, suspected gang members and their associates at locations throughout the Southeast district. Officers also conducted proactive patrol in areas known to be frequented by these violent gang members.
The results of the operation are:
37 felony arrests (9 were parolees, 5 were probation suspects, 10 were Gang members with 9 of those being Bulldog gang members, and 3 narcotic suspects were arrested.)
Officers also conducted 26 parole searches and 18 probation searches. Officers seized 4 rifles, 5 grams of methamphetamine and 2 oz of marijuana.
The team also made 32 misdemeanor arrests, issued 43 hazardous traffic citations, made 8 DUI arrests, and impounded 22 vehicles.
