Police investigate shooting at Roosevelt High

Police say that officer Junus Perry was left with no choice, but to shoot and kill 17-year-old Jesus Carrizales.

When on the ground... police say Carrizales kept coming at Perry with a baseball bat... saying, "what are you gonna do now?"

Once Perry managed to shoot Carrizales in the chest, he repeated several times, "go ahead, kill me," leading police to believe this 17-year-old wanted to die.

One day following the officer involved shooting death of 17-year-old Jesus Carrizales, additional officers are called to provide added support.

They could be seen all throughout the Roosevelt High campus... some on horseback.

And although students said they felt safer, many were still upset over yesterday's tragedy.

At a news conference held today, Police Chief Jerry Dyer commended officer Junus Perry for using his firearm, after Carrizales hit him over the head with a 21-inch, wooden baseball bat.

Chief Dyer believes Carrizales wanted to die.

After interviewing nearly 140-students, dyer is calling yesterday's incident a suicide by cop.

Police also found a large knife on Carrizales... removing it from his pocket after he was shot.

In all, Chief Dyer said its unfortunate that such a terrible tragedy had to unfold right in front of students.

It left Fresno Unified with no choice, but to call in support of their own.

Police will remain on campus until school administrators feel they're no longer needed, which could be some time.
