Carrizales family calls for independent investigation

Saying they do not trust the Fresno police department, the family of Jesse Carrizales held a news conference on Saturday to call for an outside investigation of the shooting that killed the 17-year-old Roosevelt High School student. Carrizales was shot to death after he attacked a Fresno police officer with a baseball bat on the school campus earlier this week.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer says the officer was in fear of his life and that Carrizales was continuing to attack the officer when he was shot.

Several civil rights groups, including the Fresno chapter of the NAACP, joined the Carrizales family at the news conference. They claim there are already discrepancies in the reports of the incident.

Chief Dyer says he is willing to meet with the family face-to-face to discuss what happened and address their concerns.
