Fresno man gets max sentence for killing girlfriend

A Fresno man who killed his girlfriend received the maximum sentence Monday morning.

Matthew Sanchez was ordered to spend the next 50 years to life in prison for killing 21-year-old Megan Israelsky in December 2006.

She had just given birth to the couple's first child. Police say Sanchez called police, after shooting his girlfriend through the eye.

He told authorities she was attacked by robbers in their tower district apartment, but upon further interrogation, Sanchez admitted to killing Israelsky.

Sanchez will be eligible for parole in 2056.
