Same bullet injures one woman, grazes another

By Preston Phillips

One man is under arrest and a woman is in the hospital in critical condition following a bizarre shooting Wednesday at an apartment complex in northwest Fresno.

A woman called police saying a bullet had come through her wall and bounced off her back.

That led officers next door where they found a bloody scene.

Just before 9:30, Fresno Police were called out to the 3300 block of North Marks by a woman who said she had been shot.

"A resident said she had been shot in the back and the bullet had come through her wall," said Lt. Herman Silva of the Fresno Police Department.

She did not want to go on camera, but showed us the bullet hole in her bedroom wall.

She says she just happened to be leaning forward when it entered her, and lucky for her, the bullet only grazed her shirt.

After speaking with the woman, police went next door to talk with neighbors.

That's when they found a 27 year old female in a back bedroom, bleeding from her mouth.

"It appears the bullet may have gone through the victim's mouth, exited out the back of her head and then went through the wall and the struck the neighbor," said Silva.

Police are now questioning two men that were in the apartment when the shooting occurred, trying to figure out if the shooting was accidental or an attempted homicide.

One of those men: the victim's husband.

"They asked him what happened he said they were playing with a gun and she accidentally shot herself in the mouth," said Silva.

Police are currently investigating this shooting as a domestic violence incident.
