Homicide Victim Identified, Boyfriend Arrested

By KSEE News

Forty-six-year-old Denise Newton was found dead in her southeast Fresno apartment Thursday. It is Fresno's 15th homicide of 2008.

The mother of Denise Newton sobbed shortly after learning the news her daughter was dead. A little more than 24 hours later police ruled the case a homicide and identified a suspect.

Police believe it was a case of domestic violence. After spending the night questioning 38- year-old Marcel Perry, who was apparently the victim's boyfriend, he was arrested. Lt. Shannon Galvan with the Fresno Police Department said, "he has not been charged with the murder at this time. He's being held on a probation violation and the investigation is ongoing." Police won't say what they violation is. What they will say, perry is the only suspect for the homicide, and charges could be filed against him next week.
