An early morning accident in rural Kings County claimed the lives of 3 teens who graduated from Hanford West High School just this past Wednesday. According to the CHP, a Hyundai going eastbound on Jersey Avenue failed to negotiate the curve on to 13th Avenue and crashed into a canal filled with water. All 3 people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as 18-year-old Carlos Sigala, Jr. of Hanford, 17-year-old Corey Kennedy of Armona and 18-year-old Jesus Rios of Armona. Hanford West High School tells KSEE 24 News all 3 graduated last week. It is not clear who was driving the car. Investigators say they do not thing drugs or alcohol were involved, but did say none of the teens were wearing their seat belts.

This tragic accident might have been preventable. For some reason news agencies ignore the following information 99% of the time I submit it. 3000 people have drowned trapped in their vehicles in the last decade. There is a cheap and easy to use safety idea. People need to be informed so that they can ask officials to look into this danger and we do not continue to lose our best and brightest. Google the term "Escape Tip" to learn more. Then call elected officials and ask them to act.
