Major crackdown on Fresno gang

By KSEE News

The Fresno Police Department and the U.S. Attorney's office say they have broken up one of the largest and most dangerous gangs in the Fresno area.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer held a news conference to announce results of what he called two of the largest anti-gang operations in the city's history.

Dyer says more than 80 people have been arrested, 54 of whom are validated Villa Posse gang members, a gang that's been plaguing West Fresno since the mid-1980's.

Dyer says the gang dealt in narcotics, weapons, and human trafficking, involving prostitution.

The gang's leader, Curtis Hendricks, was one of those arrested.

U.S. Attorney McGregor Scott says Hendricks and 12 others have been issued federal indictments and will be placed in federal prisons outside of California to limit communication with fellow gang members.

Scott also says this guarantees longer prison terms, because they'll serve at least 85% of their sentence in federal prison, as opposed to state prison, where they might only serve 50%.
