Mayor pushes for police auditor

By KSEE News

Fresno Mayor Alan Autry is making one final push to bring an independent police auditor to Fresno.

This morning, the Mayor announced he will ask the Fresno City Council to adopt a resolution placing the issue on the November 4th ballot.

The auditor would be nominated by the city manager and approved by the city council.

The duties of the auditor would be to provide independent oversight of the police, particularly in officer involved shooting cases.

This isn't the first time the Mayor has proposed this additional oversight.
But, over the years, the majority of city council members have shot down the idea saying the system currently in place isn't broken.

Autry said the residents of Fresno should have the power to decide what's best for their community.
