Fresno Unified teacher arrested on child porn possession charges, neighbors react

A Fresno Unified teacher who teaches music at two elementary schools has been arrested, charged with 100 counts of possessing child pornography. Fresno police chief Jerry Dyer held a news conference Friday morning to announce the arrest of 57 year old Terry Zane. He taught music at Wolters and Lawless Elementary schools in Fresno.

Chief Dyer said the case began after Zane brought a computer to a computer repair shop in July and a technician at the shop found images of child pornography on the computer's hard drive. Zane was arrested yesterday after he came to pick up the computer. Police say they also confiscated another computer and several computer CDs from Zane's Fresno home.

Chief Dyer says that more than 1000 images of children ages 3 to 17 posing in the nude and pictures of children ages 5 to 6 having sex with adults were found on the computer.

Dyer says that, so far, there has been no determination who any of the children or adults in the pictures are, or if Zane took any of the pictures.
Dyer said Zane has admitted the computers in question belong to him and that he is responsible for the content on the computers' hard drives.

FUSD officials say Zane passed all security background checks and has been working for the school district since 1991. He is currently on administrative leave since being arrested.

Friday, residents in Zane's neighborhood reacted to his arrest.

While some are now concerned for the safety of their children, many say they will support Zane and his family throughout this entire ordeal.

I grew up as a very close friend of one of his daughters. I spent many hours at their home between the ages of 5-15 and I can say that this man never acted inapropriately around me or any of our other friends. This is an extremely kind and loving family. This man deserves the benefit of the doubt while this whole thing is sorted out. The family deserves no less than support and privacy during this time. Shame on all of you for jumping to such outrageous conclusions.

First of all,I believe there were warning signs long before this happend.The principal need's to start paying more attention to all of these teachers. Spend time watching instead of huddled up in groups before and during school.They will see some teachers acting and talking inaproprietly.As a parent I have.The principal should be concerned.Check on the classes when the teachers don't know you are there.Put a pair of parent eyes on.Our kid's "TRUST" you. Administrative leave? That makes me sick!

It's possible that the computer in question could have been infected with a virus. http://www.technewsworld.com/story/security/63450.html?welcome=1218228239 In this Article, a person owned a laptop and got infected with "Malware" which resulted with him unknowingly downloading the same type of material in question. He luckily avoided jail thanks to an independent IT forensics investigation. Just food for thought.

This is so sad, to think that we trust these people to role models for our children. If he is guilty and I say "IF" biting my tounge, because I am very upset, I hope he is convicetd and stripped off all rights due to dealing with children.
