Demands for better prison guard safety

Hundreds of people rallied in front of the federal prison in Atwater on Tuesday, demanding more safety protection for correctional officers. The rally was in response to the death of correctional officer Jose Rivera, who was killed by prisoners at the Atwater facility in June.
The group demanded that the officers be given protective vests and non-lethal weapons, and that more staff is hired to handle the prison population.
