Former deputy DA arrested in prostitution sting

By KSEE News

A Fresno Deputy District Attorney was arrested as part of a prostitution sting by Fresno police. The arrest of 48-year-old Jeffery Bernel happened on May 15. The DA's office tells KSEE 24 News he no longer works for the office. Bernel allegedly offered an undercover police officer $20 for oral sex. The sting operation was aimed at cleaning up prostitution activity around a Motel 6 at Crystal and Olive in southwest Fresno.
Bernel accepted an offer to enter the First Time Offender's program and completed the program, which means that there will no longer be a pursuit of criminal charges against him, but the citation he was issued will stay on his record.
