Jail Release Plan Sparks Outcry

By Jon Brent

Sheriff Margaret Mims is taking the brunt of Fresno County budget shortfall by having to cut almost 3 million of the 6 million dollars from her department.
The sheriff's plan to release inmates has gone over like a lead balloon with City leaders.
Especially since she vowed in her campaign two years ago to "not" release inmates. Jon Brent has the story.

i am believe that she asks the supervisors for early retirement for few officers who are planning to retire on next year January, cut the two percents living cost increase, build another parking lot at the Kerman area for deputies where can't take their department vehicle to their home (saving some department gas money), reduce some upper management positions (ex. undersheriff, captain, LT, sergeasts.) and reduce differential nightshift to five percents. Do all above will be able to save money.

I bet there is one thing that hasn't been done for the crowded jail/sheriff's budget problem. That would be turning illegal alien criminals over to the feds. How many jail cells would be emptied by deporting those who are illegal aliens? Maybe it would be cheaper for the sheriff's department to buy them a one way ticket back to their native lands.
