Breaking News: Fresno County Sheriff halts early inmate releases

The Fresno County Board of Supervisors and the Sheriff's Department have reached a tentative agreement that would halt the early release of inmates from the jail until Tuesday.

The Board has proposed a plan that would provide Sheriff Mims with $6 million in funding that she says would prevent the lay-off of 50 correctional officers and the further early release of inmates.

The Board will vote on the matter next Tuesday. They said the money would will come from an internal source. They say it would not effect any other county departments.

Earlier in the week a special meeting of the Fresno City Council was scheduled for Friday to vote on whether to ask a judge to issue a court injunction preventing the further release of inmates. Upon hearing of the tenative agreement, Fresno Mayor Alan Autry said the city will delay seeking legal action against the county.
