Fresno leaders collided this week after Sheriff Margaret Mims signed off on the early release of over 70 Fresno County jail inmates.

In a welcomed surprise, Friday afternoon the sheriff made the decision to halt releases until Tuesday when the Fresno County Board of Supervisors are scheduled to meet.

Supervisor Bob Waterston said the board came up with a way to get the sheriff the 6 million dollars she needs by borrowing from their internal fund.

While everyone involved is thankful solutions are in sight, some question jeopardizing the publics’ safety in the process.

Undersheriff Scott Jones warned the halting of early releases is temporary until the money from the board is finalized.
