Former Manager Brings Suit Against Baby Food Maker

By KSEE News

The baby-food manufacturer could be facing two potential lawsuits after two employees were let go.

A lawyer for Jocelyn Mailley, a former plant manager, says they are bringing a wrongful termination suit against Initiative Foods.

"She was a plant manager and she made numerous complaints over a period of time over the processing and storage of food. It is illegal to terminate for being a whistle blower."

This comes after Mailley shared gruesome details about the baby food made at Initiative Foods. The former employee cites the use of slimy carrots, rotten potatoes, and instances where glass was found inside baby food jars.

"These allegations are only meant to hurt us. Our food is safe and we are very proud of that," said John Ypma, President of Initiative Foods.

Ypma says an audit done in March where the company scored high marks reflects the manufacturers stellar record.

Another manager named John Mulvaney was also let go on similar grounds. But the circumstances surrounding Mulvaney's case are unknown. A mediation hearing between Mailley and the company is scheduled for Thursday.

I work for Initiative Foods too. They keep all their produce in really good shape and its all really fresh. I have never seen anything go bad, if anything go bad it gets thrown out immediately. Plus everythin gets scientically checked to make sure it fits all our specs. This lady is just trying to take money becasue shes not smart enough to do a good job.

As a employee of initiative foods, I know first hand all baby food jars are ran through an x-ray before leaving our plant. The company is very strict on only putting out the very best products.
