Layoffs Expected At Corcoran Hospital

By KSEE News

Officials with the Corcoran District Hospital have agreed to extend cost control measures to address the lack of Medi-Cal payments given by the state.

"We want to make sure we can continue to provide hospital services to the community in a changed economy," said CEO David Hill.

Despite outlasting the state's longest budget deadlock in history officials with the hospital say actions needed to be taken and a work force reduction was in the plans.

"It's really bad for the community. We need more jobs in this town," said Bob Bajwa.

Medi-Cal payments were on hold since July 1st because of the budget. It doesn't seem the Governor's recent signing of the budget Tuesday will change the decision made by hospital staff.

"We have to work smarter with less on a day by day basis," said Hill.

The number of workers expected to be laid off was not disclosed.

I was one of the 27 people to get laid off at Corcoran Hospital on thursday. The day of the lay-offs were cold! This is the thanks we get after working so hard all these years at the Hospital. There were many workers that have been there for 20 years! SAD! The Hospital is "sugar-coating" the story for the public! Saving money! How could they save money if they got rid of all the lowest paid employees? They gave us false hope when the census was low saying that our jobs were secure!

You said on the news that employees were guessing between 50 and 100 employees were getting axed. Interesting, because there's only about 100 employees who work there. How does that figure? Did you ask?
