Police Chief Jerry Dyer met with the media Tuesday to discuss the latest spike in homicides in Fresno.

Also on the agenda were the latest plans to bring security cameras to the area of Poppy and Grove in Southwest Fresno.

"These neighbors have every right to be alarmed," said Police Chief Dyer.

Dyer says there were four murders in that neighborhood over the past fourteen months.

"This is a serious crisis. This is something we will not tolerate," said Councilwoman Cynthia Sterling.

Police say the cameras will not be fully functional for another week. The Chief advises residents not to be afraid by the latest spike in violence talking about the three murders in four days. He says the number of murders have actually gone down 23% compared to last year.
