High winds, dry conditions create wildfire danger

Fresno area firefighters are preparing to head out tomorrow to help battle blazes should they break out in southern California.

According to Cal Fire, the National Weather Service is predicting that Santa Ana winds will turn offshore across Southern California by Sunday and those winds will become strong and gusty below the canyons and passes by Monday morning.

Winds in the 20 to 40 mph range, with gusts up to 50 mph, will be accompanied by warmer and much drier conditions that will last through at least Tuesday.

The windy forecast is alarming to Governor Schwarzenegger, emergency officials and firefighters.

The fear is that the high winds, combined with dry conditions, and any spark of a flame, could spell disaster, just as it did last October.
