Fresno Mayor Alan Autry endorsed Ashley Swearengin in her bid to be the next mayor of Fresno. The mayor made the endorsement on his KYNO radio talk show Wednesday morning.

Mayor Autry issued the following statement: “The upcoming mayoral election could be one of the most important events in the history of our city. Fresno has made progress on many fronts over the last several years and it is critical for the next mayor to keep that positive momentum going. Ashley Swearengin has the vision, skills and determination to continue our forward march into the 21st century. That is why she has my vote on November 4th."

Henry T. Perea's campaign also issued a statement in response to the mayor's endorsement:

“It’s inspiring to think that in our country every vote counts the same. That’s true in Fresno whether it’s the Mayor or any one person across our community. I respect the Mayor and I’ve enjoyed working with him for the last six years but it will take more than 50,000 votes to win this election and I’m confident that the majority of local Fresno residents share my vision for change with a safer city and better jobs.”

Mrs. Swearengin has had several years to "attract more jobs here", in fact, one of her goals as Executive Director of the RJI was to bring 30-some-odd thousand jobs to Fresno; it's been 5 years and she failed. BTW, she shouldn't count construction jobs during the housing boom. That is, of course, unless she's taking credit for the housing boom. Fresno has double digit unemployment rates; really, what has she done to alleviate the problem? Nothing, if you ask me.

I saw the Swearngin in the debate the other night and she really came across confident. I think she will do a good job presenting our city and helping attract more jobs here.
