Controlled Burn near Shaver Lake turns into a Fire Fight

Controlled burns are something fire crews initiate from time to time to prevent large fires from occurring, but Monday night, a controlled burn near the Shaver Lake area proved the opposite.

Around 5pm Cal Fire crews were dispatched to a thick forest area just below Shaver Lake to combat the spreading fire.

The initial concern of the so-called “Solitude Fire” was the around 30 homes just above the area where the 1 and ¼ acre fire was burning.

Fire fighters stopped the threat to those homes by securing a thick fire line.

Even though the “Solitude” fire fight is over a fairly small area, fire crews say the type of terrain they’re battling is one of the most difficult to control.
