Teen Killed and Father Injured in Southeast Fresno

A 19 year old is dead and his father in critical condition after Fresno Police said a fight between a group of men escalated to gun violence on Backer and Huntington in Southeast Fresno.

Patrick King lives nearby and said after hearing 6 gun shots, he ran outside to help.

“I saw the son lying on the ground, told him, what’s your name, what’s your name?... I told him, talk to me, talk to me! And then his eyes were purple and he stopped breathing on me. I felt helpless like, what do I do?” King said.

The 19 year old died at the hospital.

As of Thursday night, his 50 year old father was listed in critical condition.

This latest episode of gun violence happened around 4 in the afternoon while kids were playing on the street.

Alfonzo Chavez said his 7 year old niece saw the gun, heard the shots and ran.

“It could have been her. For all I knew ,it could have been her who was shot.” Chavez said.

Fresno Police detained a man they think is involved, but don’t believe he’s the shooter.

Lt. Herman Silva of the Fresno Police Department said, “We’re talking to a number of witnesses who saw the fight and we’re still trying to determine what was the motive.”

Please do not listen to what the "eye witness" had to say. He has been arrested before for impersonating an police officer and loves to make false claims to the media and law enforcement.
