Carbon monoxide poisoning is being blamed for the death of a Fresno woman this morning.

When she was found, CO levels inside her home were said to be ten times the normal level.

Preston Phillips reports on what authorities say you can do to prevent the same thing from happening to you.

Preston Phillips, KSEE 24 News: “This carbon monoxide detector senses CO levels long before they turn deadly, and fire officials say you should have at least a couple installed in your home.

You can't smell it, see it, or taste it.

That's why carbon monoxide, also known as the silent killer can lead to serious illness or death, if it goes undetected.

According to the Center's for Disease Control, more than 500 people die from accidental CO poisoning, each year.

That's why fire officials strongly suggest you install carbon monoxide detectors in your home.

Just after nine this morning, the “silent killer” struck again.

This time, taking the life of a 43-year-old woman in Southeast Fresno, found dead inside her home.

Carbon monoxide levels, 10 times above normal.

Authorities say she was using a generator to heat the house, because her electricity had been shut off.

Battalion Chief Chuck Tobias with Fresno City Fire says, if she would have had a working CO detector in her home, she would have probably been able to detect toxic levels of carbon monoxide, days ago.

Three firefighters were rushed to the hospital this morning, after they inhaled the dangerous gas, while performing CPR on the victim, now all three must undergo oxygen treatments inside a hyperbaric chamber at Community Regional Medical Center.

And today in Los Angeles, a mother and her two children were hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning after they used a charcoal grill to heat their home.

Also today in Indiana, an 11-year-old boy died from CO poisoning.

Investigators believe the carbon monoxide may have leaked from a faulty hot water heater.
