Allegations of an inappropriate student - teacher relationship at Fresno’s University High School have shocked the small campus located on Fresno State.

On Tuesday, authorities from University High School contacted University Police about 31 year old music teacher, Jonathan Malcolm and suspicions he was having a relationship with an under aged student.

Malcolm, who has been a teacher at the high school for 3 years, was arrested Wednesday night on charges of annoying and/or molesting a child under the age of 18 and distributing lewd material.

Although, all of the students and parents KSEE 24 News spoke said they don’t believe the allegations, Dr. James Bushman, the head of University High School said the concerns are legitimate.

Bushman said, “We came upon some information we thought that should be acted upon and again, we weighed the validity of that information and made a decision in this case that we needed the University Police to do a full investigation.”

A joint investigation between University Police and Fresno Police prompted a search warrant resulting in enough information to arrest Malcolm.

Malcolm was booked into the Fresno County Jail Wednesday night.

He has since made bail.

Dr. Bushman said all parents of University High School students have been notified about the allegations and arrest.

The School Board is scheduled to meet Friday to discuss the music teacher’s employment status.

Evidence is evidence. This man is a predator and the media only knows about a 3rd of it. Those who support him are not bad people, but they too have been misled by an evil man.

How do you try and convict some one in this short period of time. Even if Mr. Malcolm is completely cleared of the allogations you have messed up his life with out due process. I believe he will be cleared and then I hope he owns the school district for acting so hastly. Talk about a witch hunt.

I went to UHS and he was creepy then. I'm not sure how this is a shock.

Before Malcolm was a teacher at UHS he taught at my high school in Palm desert. He was one of my favorite teachers and I had the utmost respect for him. Without his help I would not be the musician I am today. God Bless him and his family.

After being a student of Jon Malcolm's for two years at University High, I feel totally comfortable standing behind him and with my fellow alumni and supporting him. The only thing he is guilty of is being an amazing teacher and an asset to the students.

An alumni of University, Mr. Malcolm was not only a teacher but a friend... these allegations are out of line and though he does joke around constantly with his students.. he is simple always joking. This girl must've been real foolish to do what she did to such a brilliant man.

John Malcom is a great guy. Down with authority.

I am curently a student at uhs and I do not believe that Mr.Malcolm would have done this. He is a great teacher. AND i think that the news is making it seem like he sexually molested someone. Dictionary.com defines molest as "to bother, interfere with, or annoy". I have been led to believe that this is the type of molestation they are charging him with. I have never seen him make any sexual advances tword a student. Nor have I ever heard anyone say that he has done that before.

I am a current student at University High School and speaking for myself and others we would all appricate if the news people will stop coming to UHS because; we do not want to talk about this matter

As a former student of University High, I have been given the opportunity to get to know Mr. Malcolm through his generous help in studies and tutoring sessions. In all of the time I have worked with him, I have NEVER seen any action that even remotely be considered out of line. He was always very professional and I am sure that this is just a huge misunderstanding. Don't forget, "innocent until proven guilty."

I am a parent of a UHS student and I've been hearing for years about Mr. Malcolm's inappropriate remarks to female students. Why didn't a fellow teacher or administrator say something to him earlier? It's not true that all of his students love him. His attempts to be one of the guys make some of them uncomfortable. That said, if he is only guilty of boorish, inappropriate behavior, it is criminal that his career and his life should be ruined over this. Innocent until proven guilty.

I am an Alumni from UHS - I graduated in 2007. I took classes from Mr. Malcolm and have great respect for him as a person and as a teacher. This is a big surprise to all of us; he and his family have our support and we hope there was a misunderstanding. We knew him well, and although he had a quirky sense of humor, we always knew it was just that. We genuinely hope people do not write him off as a child-molesting teacher, because he is great at his job and an admirable person in general.

Almost all students, past and present, of the school are shocked and have faith that this will all come down to a misunderstanding. Thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Malcolm and his family during this time.

I am also a UHS student. Malcom is a great guy. We all love him and he's the one teacher people really trust. He's more of a friend then a teacher, and I have learned so much from him. I will support him until solid evidence is found.

I am a former student of Jon's from another school and he is still a mentor of sorts to me. There is something inherently wrong about this allegation. As someone who is close to him I can assure that this does not make sense to anyone who knows him.

I am a University High alumni, and I think that Mr. Malcolm was a very talented musician, but have always felt a strange feeling that his relationships with students where a little too deep and personal.

I am a junior at University High School and I agree with the above Anonymous. Jon Malcolm is a wonderful, honest teacher, and, because I am a student of his, I know that he would never do anything like this. I am hoping for his release back to UHS and found innocent from all charges.

I am also a student at UHS and Jon Malcolm is a wonderful person and a great teacher. As a member to the UHS "family" i hope we will be able to pull through this and i hope not only for the sake of our school but for the sake of his family that he is found innocent.

Same here, I am a student at UHS and I hope he is found innocent because he is one of the most well respected teachers at UHS. The student that accused Mr. Malcom should be ashamed.

Mr, Malcolm is a wonderful educator. Many students are standing behind him, and are supporting him UNTIL and IF evidence ever proves otherwise. He is part of our family at UHS.

My child has been in Mr. Malcom's class for the three years that he has been teaching. Mr. Malcom has a wonderful rapport with all the students and has an awsome ability to teach our children. We pray this to be a horrible, horrible mistake but find it inconceavable that a student would make up such horrific allegations. People will be jumping to conclusions, but eventually, the truth will come out and we all must live with that truth, good or bad. SHOCKED

i agree with whoever is anonymous. he is a great person and most likely did not do anything, the student who filed this report most likely was and is overreacting to a joke.

This is a student from University High School and I have to say that Jon Malcom is a brilliant and good man and would not do anything of the sort. I'm hopeing this all passes and he is found innocent
