Fresno businessman signs on to revive Granite Park development

Fresno businessman Kirk Vartanian says he is investing in the Granite Park development, with plans to open up a Vegas-style club in the space that housed the former Cabo Wabo restaurant. He also plans to open up several unfinished restaurants at Granite Park. Vartanian is teaming up with developer Milt Barbis, who ran into stumbling blocks and faced several lawsuits over unpaid bills at the development.
Cabo Wabo shut down after rock star Sammy Hagar, who licensed the use of the Cabo Wabo name to Barbis, pulled his franchise agreement. Barbis also got hit with several lawsuits and liens after contractors and employees claimed they were not paid for work.
Vartanian plans to reopen Cabo Wabo as a club called The Edge with a major event in June featuring celebrity Kim Kardashian. He also says he will open up two unfinished restaurants, Memphis Blues and Red.
Vartanian ran into his own controversy several years ago when he was investigated in a point shaving scheme involving the Fresno State basketball team. While he was questioned by federal investigators, he was never charged with any crimes.
