4.7 Earthquake Hits Los Angeles Area

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 shook a wide area of Southern California on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was centered 16 miles south of Palm Desert, Calif., in the high desert area northeast of San Diego.

There were no initial reports of damage.
