Vartanian facing five felony counts

Wednesday Update: Kirk Vartanian pleaded not guilty to all felony counts in a Fresno County courtroom. Vartanian's attorney is flying to Las Vegas to discuss the charges against him there with the Clark County District Attorney, hoping to have the hold on Vartanian removed so Vartanian can be released from jail.

Fresno businessman Kirk Vartanian will appear in a Fresno County court Wednesday morning to face five felony counts filed against him on Tuesday by the Fresno County District Attorney's Office. The charges stem from an incident last Friday in which Vartanian allegedly hit his wife and tried to suffocate her. Vartanian's attorney, Dan Bacon, told KSEE 24 News that the incident was a misunderstanding between Vartanian and his wife, and that Vartanian suffered some cuts and bruises from the incident as well. But, the domestic abuse charges are not the only legal problems Vartanian faces. He remains in jail on a hold because of an outstanding felony warrant in Clark County, Nevada. Vartanian is accused of writing more than a dozen bad checks totaling around $250 thousand to two Las Vegas casinos. These charges call into question Vartanian's ability to continue his attempt to revive the faltering Granite Park business development in Fresno.
