Vartanian Enters Plea, Not Guilty

Kirk Vartanian stood with his two attorneys Wednesday morning. He wore a jail-issued jumpsuit as he appeared before a Fresno County judge. He entered a "not guilty" plea to the charges against him, including two counts of felony assault, one count of domestic violence, criminal threats, false imprisonment and disobeying a court order.

Bail was originally set at $155,000. The defense told the judge that their client was not a flight risk and did not pose a danger to the public. The judge and prosecutor quickly pointed out that while in jail, shortly after Vartanian was arrested, he allegedly attempted to contact the victim six times, asking her to bail him out of jail.

The charges stem from a Friday afternoon incident in which the alleged victim told Fresno Police that Vartanian came to her home, threatened her with a knife and tried to suffocate her with a pillow.

Vartanian is also wanted in Las Vegas. He allegedly owes two casinos more than $250,000. If Vartanian were bailed out of Fresno County's jail, he would likely be extradited to Nevada to face charges there.

His attorneys told KSEE 24 that they are working with the district attorney in Las Vegas to have the warrant lifted, while making payment arrangements.

Vartanian is the owner of The Edge, a Granite Park nightclub, which opened for one night. Vartanian is still trying to secure a liquor license.
