U.C. Merced students and staff walked out of class Thursday at noon to protest against rising tuition and fees.
Those who took part in the demonstration say, the U.C. system promised them an affordable education, but now they feel they're being priced out.
They want to send a message to the school system and their lawmakers, that affordable education needs to be made a higher priority.
The university says it is forced to raise prices because of the growing budget problems in the state.
