Jason Valencia, 28, Fresno was arrested Friday night on felony child endangerment charges, after his seven-week-old daughter suffered second degree burns to her legs, buttocks and groin area early Friday morning.
According to Clovis Police, Valencia was staying the night at a relative's apartment in Clovis with the infant, Thursday night. His fiancee, and the mother of the baby girl, left because she received a call that her four-year-old son was sick at home in Fresno.
Police say they learned that Valencia woke up early Friday morning, when he realized he needed to clean the baby, and used very hot water to wash her, causing severe burns over approximately 12 percent of her body.
Police say Valencia then took the infant to her mother's house on the way to work because the baby was crying. Nicole Aguilar, 23, allegedly refused to look at the injuries that Valencia described, so Valencia took the baby to work with him near Bullard and West. Police say that Valencia's boss suggested that he stay, so Valencia called Aguilar to come and get the baby, which she did.
Police say Aguilar went to pick up her sister in Biola and then went back home to get her medical card before taking the baby to St. Agnes Medical Center at 10:30 a.m.
The baby was transferred to the Burn Unit at Community Regional Medical Center where she is listed in serious condition. The Clovis Police Department is requesting that the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office file charges against Aguilar for willful cruelty to a child for the delay in getting the seven-week-old the medical attention she needed. Her son has been placed in the protective custody of a relative.
