A California lawmaker is in the Valley, trying to gain support for a proposed bill that could provide more than a billion dollars annual to state colleges.
State Assembly Majority Leader Alberto Torrico is urging Fresno State students to support the bill that he says could ensure affordable higher education for residents in years to come.
He’s proposing a 10% oil and natural gas severance tax.
He says California is the only major oil producing gstate that does not have an extraction tax..
Fresno State is the 10th campus Torrico has visited in the last three weeks.
He’s headed to UCLA Thursday.
