Two Fresno fire stations could be cut from next year’s budget.
The cuts are part of Mayor Ashley Swearengin’s plan to fix the city’s $28 million budget deficit.
One station is located at Aircorp and Westover in East Central Fresno, the other at La Ventana and Celeste in Northwest Fresno.
Both fire stations have the lowest volume of calls.
Chief Randy Bruegman says, both stations combine for roughly 700 calls for service a year.
Three firefighters are assigned to each unit.
If the council approves the mayor’s proposal the stations will officially close January 1st, and the firefighters will be reassigned.
