Leno Takes a Swipe at Fresno's New Image Campaign

By KSEE News

Maybe you saw Jay Leno take a jab at the new slogan the City of Fresno is using to promote a new image campaign... Maybe you saw Conan O'Brian poke fun a couple months back when Fresno was listed in an online poll as the least intelligent city in America... Well, city officials have had enough of the late night jokes, and are fighting back.

Of course, those who make money want more and more. Blake Konczal was that type of person, so he tried to create a for-profit venture as part of the Fresno County WIB using current county paid staff. He wanted to create a consulting business offering support to other WIBs. Any profits would be used for trips, food, alcohol, parties, etc. that could not be justified by federal funds. Sounds like an ideal politician, huh?

Here is the B.S. that I was talking about with CMTI - http://www.c-mti.com/index_clients.asp. See how Jim Nyman's son was on the payroll earning $80,000 a year and he was only 20 years old. Nyman made sure Blake got a piece of the money through his son's paycheck. He would cash it and then hand it over. No paper trails!

If State of CA auditors were smart and looking for corruption, they would look at CMTI and CLC Partnership and the relationship with Blake Konczal, Director of Fresno County WIB. Blake receives soft money from these vendors who are friends of his from Alameda County WIB. These partners followed him to Fresno to bid on contracts that they won. CLC is not incorporated, but two individuals and a union that won the largest contract with Fresno County - Manchester Center. Open your eyes people!!

The WIB uses the term "job readiness" to discriminate against individuals who are not English speaking or basic skills capable to persist the social problem of unemployment. The justification is the Republican motto- we must help those who can help themselves.

Yeah, there is lots of corruption in Fresno. Everyone knows it as the good ole boy network. Board members who are suppose to be impartial, are business people buying influence and votes from politicians. Mayor Swearengin use to work for Fresno State as part of the RJI, now its Mike Dozier, former city of Clovis. Swearengin made sweet deals with Blake Konczal and Pam Lassetter with the Fresno County WIB on vendor contracts. Now, the WIB is receiving millions for not training residents.

I say it's all true..gangs run over the neighborhoods, graffiti, is all over the place..The Mayor is stripping the city of its workers and the council is not standing up and doing anything about it..This is a corrupt town. It's time for the public to unite and stand up and challenge the politicans who are spending 1.2 million on a ad campaign when I just gave my best friend my last $20.00 because he was fired and labeled as "Immaterial" by the Mayor, how can everyone not see what's going on...

Honestly, I prefer Visalia over Fresno or Bakersfield, Its ridiculous to claim Fresno is world class when downtown is dead, transportation sucks and people in the city act like they're doing you a favor by talking to you

Having moved here from the Bay Area, i can honestly say that the only true living culture here is in the yogurt. Fresno, and by extension Clovis, is unfortunately a very corrupt town. The main difference is the level of cynicism about it. It amazes me when I visit other parts of the valley how many towns have more pride about themselves than Fresno. Hanford has more world class, Bakersfield has more world class, Modesto, ..., nah, its no different than Fresno.

How about we embrace our past of agriculture instead of continuing to try and incorperate what makes other cities great. Agriculture used to be the heart of the city but we seem to have done nothing but shame eachother for that past. Agiculture is a very proud heritage, but we have thrown away our heart and our heritage and to many people are trying to relace it with something we are not. You can't live without a heart.

The last time I was in Fresno was 1975. I loved it. We went to this restaurant that served the BEST food. I haven't had food that good before or since. I just can't remember the name of the place.

I think we cripple ourselves when we overly focus on the negative things about our community rather than the positive things we obviously can proclaim. We have awsome farmland, easy access to outdoor recreation locations in the Sierras; two national parks; roadways are above average; cultural diversity; some very good schools. There's some places that are way crappier than here believe me I've lived there. If you want to proclaim your stupidity for living here go ahead. Better yet, MOVE!

Fresno should take stock in one of it's greatest assets-it's proximity to Yosemite National Park, and bill itself as "The Urban Gateway to Yosemite".

Seriously, we just laid off CSO's before christmas and LOWERED STAFFING for our PUBLIC SAFETY(police and fire)in a near negligent level and we are spending money on baseball and our image. In a time when arson and violent crime will greatly increase? Great move mayor! You obviously just care about your image and not your people. Stand up Fresno, make your voice heard!

Lets lay off more people so we can pay for this and prove how stupid we really are. Way to go Mayor!!
