Public Defenders Lose Fight to Keep Jobs

Fresno County Public Defenders have lost a battle in the courtroom today to stop layoffs.
Six public defenders are scheduled to be laid off Monday as part of the county board of supervisors’ plan to save money.
The attorneys claim the move violates county charter that requires a 4/5th vote of approval by the board to contract out work that is normally done by county employees.
The public defenders argue serious damage will be done to people sitting in jail waiting for their cases to move forward.
In addition to the scheduled layoffs, a dozen people will be demoted.

A "Perfect Storm" is coming folks - the economy is terrible. There are no jobs and there's no end in sight, despite what Obama, Pelosi, and Reid say. The state is teetering on the egde of financial colapse. The Fed has mandated releasing an additional 40k new prisoners out of prison over the next 24 mos, on top of the normal 10k paroled each year. Swearinging is hammering the Fresno Police Dept - The DA's office and the Pub Def office are downsizing? "Gentlemen, prepare to defend yourselvs".
