Students Upset Over Anti-Gay Teachings at FCC

Students at Fresno City College are fed up with Dr. Bradley Lopez. They're saying he's teaching religious bias in a health sciences class. He's accused of teaching out of the bible and asking students to see him after class if they want to know more about God. Students say they're offended by his teachings on abortion and homosexuality. The ACLU has given the school one week to explain how they'll address the issue.

Dr. Lopez is a caring and knowledgeable teacher. We may have laws separating church and state, but in my experiences as a FCC student it has not stopped other professors in the past from speaking their views to the class and not getting in trouble for it. Why is it that suddenly there is a Prof. that has upset a few people and he makes the news? When hundreds of us students every day get our personal values and beliefs questioned and we are just supposed to sit back and be quiet about it. I think this has more to do with his politics than what he is teaching. This is college people, if you don’t like his class take a different professor.

Dr. Lopez knows the material he teaches from my experience in his class and he is a good teacher. BUT, it is hard to have a good learning experience when he injects an inflammatory topics into his lectures. He had been teaching 33 years when i took his class and I think it may be time for him to retire.

Whatever side of the issue you are on, it cuts both ways. Meaning, if people are going to have gay pride shoved down their throats, they should also be prepared to have anti-gay pride shoved down it too. Really, neither side should be in the classroom unless it is pertinent for that class.

Dr. Lopez is a wonderful teacher. He cares deeply for his students. Over my years of college schooling at Fresno City and Fresno Pacific University, I haven't came across a teacher that had more impact on my education as Dr. Lopez. He is the by far the most caring and professional instructor at FCC and to read these accustations are sickening and makes me question the validity behind them.
