A step Thursday for the Armenian community as the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs passed a non binding resolution to classify the Armenian massacre of the World War I era as "genocide."
As a result, Turkey withdrew its U.S. Ambassador.
Muslim Turkey accepts that Christian Armenians were killed by Ottoman Forces but, deny that one and a half million were killed amounting to genocide.
It has been warned the passing of this resolution could jeopardize U.S. - Turkey relations.
Turkey plays a pivotal role in U.S. dealings in the Middle East.
The measure will now be sent to the house where passage is uncertain.
