Air Force Lt. Says She was Kicked out For Becoming a Mom

Rebecca Edmonds was an overachieving Air Force officer, who took advantage of her scholarship opportunities to become a nurse, on top of her role as a second lieutenant. That all changed when she became a mom: the Air Force 'disenrolled' her — the military euphemism for "kicked out" — because single parents aren't welcome within their ranks.

They also have forced her to pay back her $92,000 scholarship.

Edmonds believes the Air Force essentially asked her to choose between her career and her child, by putting her now 10-month old son up for adoption or by terminating her pregnancy.
