Update: Fresno police say the attempted kidnapping report was false. No further details were released, but investigators say they expect to be able to reveal more information on Wednesday.
A 16-year-old was walking near Bullard High School when she says a truck stopped nearby and a man called out to her. When she kept walking, the man grabbed her but she managed to free herself from the man before he took off.
An official statement by Fresno Unified says the student sought safety at Starr Elementary school after the incident.
Fresno Unified wants to remind students and families about safe practices when walking to and from school, which include never walking alone, always taking a familiar, well-traveled route, and never talking to strangers.
