There was no stopping this baby boy from making a dramatic entrance into the world. A Toronto mom gave birth on the side of a highway Sunday morning during a frantic pre-dawn dash to the hospital.
With just four strong contractions, Carolyn Murdoch delivered the child in the back seat of her car, before paramedics could get there.
“Normally, the contractions roll on top of each other,” she told Canada’s CBC News. “With him, literally it was four big contractions and I couldn’t stop it, he came right out.”
Murdoch was away from home at a girls’ weekend in Barrie, Ontario, when the saga began.
Mother and child are both doing fine.
She was still two weeks short of full-term and had no reason to suspect her baby would come early until contractions started in the early hours of Sunday morning.
As they got closer together she asked her friends to drive her to the hospital and asked her firefighter husband to meet them there.
But the 7-pound baby boy wasn’t waiting and arrived on the side of the highway at 4:35 a.m. while the mom’s 2-year-old daughter was strapped in a car seat beside her.
