There were plenty of hugs and tears as Rachel Baskin and her family learned her estranged husband's fate. Ex-marine Dejon Baskin was found guilty of three counts of attempted murder and enhancements for using a knife and gun. Back in July of 2009, Baskin stabbed and shot his ex-wife, her mother and her brother in their Reedley home. Rachel was shot and cut so badly, she still has stitches to hold her neck together. Her brother was shot in the head. Her mother was also stabbed.
Rachel Baskin expressed, “We're happy that justice has finally been served. It's been over 3 years and it feels like we can finally breathe, we're free and we're going to be safe. There's not a chance of him getting out and hurting us or hurting somebody else.”
Prosecutors say Baskin didn't want to pay spousal support. Baskin's attorney argued he suffered post-traumatic stress disorder from three tours in Iraq. Whatever sparked Baskin's violent behavior, Rachel and her family are relieved it's finally over.
Frank Christopher Gentsch said, “Now my family can start recovering a little bit better. That's the most important thing. Just continue to live your life after something like this happens.”
