Friday the Big Fresno Fair was awarded the Western Fairs Association Louis Merrill award. Its the highest award in the fair business. Organizers say they received the award because of the community's support during the fair's "Feed the Need" community food drive.
CEO of the Big Fresno Fair John Alkire said, "We couldn't have done it by ourselves. Years ago, back in 2007, we did win the Merrill award with the pirate ship, but this was a little bit more special today because it involved all of the community volunteers, the helpers and the folks that donated food for the needy."
During the Fair's run over 132 tons of food was donated to the needy.
