Business, Farmers Honored at Ag Awards

A local business and two farmers were recognized for their contributions to the valley Ag industry. The announcement was made Wednesday at the Big Fresno Fair.

Sun maid raisins was recognized as this year's Ag business award recipient. The honor comes as Sun Maid celebrates its' 100th anniversary here in the valley.

Also, two local farmers were named agriculturalists of the year. Debbie Jacobsen of Easton, and the late Vernal Amaro of Selma, who past away earlier this year. Mr. Amaro farmed here in the valley for several decades.

Jacobsen is also a farmer, and part of the Fresno County Farm Bureau. She also served as the bureau's first female president. "It is such an honor to be standing here representing the people who went before me and the people that will come after me."

Mrs. Jacobsen, Mr. Amaro, and Sun Maid raisins will be honored at the Ag Awards luncheon on November 14th in Fresno.
