City council members spent most of the morning behind closed doors discussing the ongoing negotiations with labor groups.
Direction was given to staff this morning regarding those negotiations, but council members could not elaborate on what that was.
We likely won't know for another week.
Council member Larry Westerlund has some military obligations to tend to, and won't be available for discussions until then.
Meanwhile, Fresno police officers say they're stepping up to help the mayor balance the budget, offering six percent in concessions, which equals about $5.7 million.
FPOA president Jacky Parks says the city wants that unconditionally.
"Of course we asked for some things in return knowing that cost is an issue, so we tried to find non-cost items or things that would balance out."
FPOA's contract opens up in 2015.
One thing union reps want in return for concessions is to extend the contract to 2016.
But members say the city has told them "no."
Council members will resume budget discussions next Wednesday.
The suspension of budget talks has no impact on the city's regular council meeting.
The weekly session is still scheduled for Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m.
