Car thieves are targeting abandoned homes. It has one police district in Fresno asking for the public's help. Overgrown yards, boarded up and busted windows...not exactly inviting. But these abandoned homes are a magnet to thieves.

"They're pulling into garages left unlocked. They're using backyards to strip vehicles and leaving them for us to recover," said Sgt. Mark Hudson with Fresno Police.

In the southeast neighborhood there are several abandoned homes. They stick out. The rest are heavily guarded by gates and dogs. Robert De Leon says his dog Crackers knows what to do when he sees strangers.

Sargent Mark Hudson says the police department found 3 homes in the last month where there was illegal activity. Kachia Lee was arrested near South Backer. Police say they found meth and marijuana on him.

Steven Valencia admits the home next door is empty and there are people walking in and out of it.

"They don't bother me at all. Whatever they do they keep it to themselves," said Valencia.
