The new "Carmelita Mine" project is being appealed today.

The Fresno Planning Commission approved the plan back in August.

A group wants to convert their farm land to an aggregate mine. They say Fresno has a shortage of the building materials. But local residents worry about the environmental impact of the mine.

Project opponents are appealing planning commission's decision to the Board of Supervisors.
